Description: Up for bid is an original vintage pre-owned 1950s Penny Glass Globe Ford Gumball Machine Ford Gum and Machine Co USA. Found at an estate of a collector of Mid-century memorabilia. Front brass tag lists the company as Ford Gum and Machine Co., Inc., of Lockport, NY and Akron, NY. The machine works great. Tested using a penny and the dispensing mechanism worked as it should. It measures about 11 ½” tall and weighs five and half pounds. The serial number is 300535. In very good condition of its age with some general wear from use and storage. It has its original glass globe with no cracks. Missing the Ford Gumball label, but these can be purchase on the internet. It does not have a key and lock, but a temporary chain connector secures the coin release stopper on the bottom. It has original rubber suction feet. But by 1934 the Ford Gum and Machine Company of Akron, New York introduced their iconic design and gumball machines became part of the American landscape. Its shiny metal cap and clear glass container made the perfect companion for Walter’s gumballs. Staring at all the brightly colored little spheres, jostling for attention proved hypnotizing. Even at a selling price of one penny, the gumball industry quickly took flight.
