Description: Vintage 1962 Gibson Les Paul / SG Standard This guitar has been in a private dealer collection for the past 40 years, behind glass in a showcase, this is the first time it has been offered for sale since the 1980's. It is considered to be in good condition, with typical wear and condition for a guitar from this period, and considered to be both a collectors and players guitar due to its rarity, originality and condition. The case is in OK condition, all the latches, handle and Gibson emblem are original, the yellow velour lining is in good condition, the bottom and top seams of the case are separated so there is some movement in these areas, it has also been spray painted. The neck pocket on the body has typical cracks, roughly half of these have this issue due to the thinness of the body in this area, the neck is set deep into the body so this is only cosmetic, there is no movement and is solid so this was reinforced long ago. On this model, this is caused by reverse pressure applied to the neck for a vibrato effect. There is a minor hairline crack near the high E string on the side of the headstock, this is really hard to see with the naked eye. There is no movement in this area, so it is either not through or was re-inforced long ago, it is not an issue nor is part of the center core of the neck. This is typically caused by hitting the machine head into a mic stand or amplifier. There is lead added to the bottom of the ABR-1 Bridge, this seems to add extra sustain due to the increased weight of this part. This could be removed with a torch, however this guitar seems to take on a life of its own, its unlike anything you have ever heard or played so it is recommended to leave this part the way it is. The B string saddle screw is gold, period correct but not original. 2 of 3 screws holding the tremolo cover onto the tailpiece / tremolo are not original. The tremolo side bar was removed and was lost long ago. Repro arms are available for sale, or perhaps an original arm could be found. Most players do not like this system, so this may not be of concern. 3 of 4 bridge pick-up ring screws are non-original. 1 backplate screw is missing Reproduction machine heads A mini toggle kill switch was added to the jack, and is now removed, the tiny hole in the center of the controls was repaired with a mahogany plug, then stained and finished. The red ring is from the washer and years of fading. The PAFS and wiring are untouched, with the exception of a newer jack, due to the removal of the mini toggle kill switch. The playability and tone of this guitar is extraordinary, it begs to be plugged in and played by a professional, the moment you pick this up you'll never set it down, you may as well just start selling all your other guitars now. If you've been looking for a guitar with original PAF's that you are not afraid to play because it costs as much as your house, this is the one for you!
