They were sold separately to show the various stages/styles of Santa from 1880 to 1940. Each box has the story for the corresponding time period written on one side. Each country who celebrated Christmas had its own name for St. Nicholas. In some languages he became Sinter Cleas, Kris Kringle (a version of Christkindl), and even Father Christmas.
