Vintage 19th C. Fine Amethyst & 925 Repousse Sterling Silver Handle Pipe Tamper

Description: Those of us in the Pipe Culture know that relaxation with that favorite pipe and tobacco. While a finger or a simple ‘Czech Tool’ serves as an adequate pipe tamper, having fine things that surround our pipe routines make that treasured time even more special. As a humble pipe restorer, I also make pipe tampers that combine my passion for pipes and jeweler’s skills to make tampers that are visually and tactically attractive. I usually salvage certain vintage wares and materials to hand craft my custom tampers. Each is quite unique. While my hours of filing, sanding and polishing on each piece will never be reimbursed, the vintage materials I collect come at some expense. My goal is to make finer tampers for those that appreciate finer pipes and accessories. Previously, I only made these tampers for friends and commissioned clients, though I have been encouraged to offer some of my work along with my pipe restorations. I put much effort into accurate descriptions, history and photos to assist you in selecting exactly what you will be receiving. That is just for size comparison and he is “me favorite Brummie!” This Victorian Style - Amethyst & 925 Repousse Sterling Silver Handle Pipe Tamper is stamped F&B STERLING. The handle was salvaged from a late 19th Century button hook that was manufactured in Providence, Rhode Island by Foster & Bailey in the 1870-1898 era. The pommel is jeweled with a purple amethyst and the Repousse Sterling Silver is in elegant Victorian style! The tamper base is modern metal alloy. The handle has a subtle bend making this a perfect one handed pipe tamper!! Truly a functional piece of jewelry, the silver & amethyst is as much eye catching as it is so practical for the piper that enjoys fine accessories. This is truly a unique piece that is over 125 years old. Certainly a treasured collectible, this was made to be used and with a little care will serve a useful tamper for many decades to come.
