Description: Vintage Art Pottery Pitcher MCM Mid Century Modern ALAMO 758 Taupe Gray Green – only marked 758 on the bottom, holds 1.5 quarts. This octagonal shaped Art Deco pitcher is a signature piece by vintage Alamo Pottery from San Antonio Texas. It has a vintage 1940s shape number 758 etched in on the bottom. No crazing, no cracks, no chips or repairs. Towards the bottom there is a glaze pop that bubbled up and burst. Nothing major, it was made this way. This pitcher is 6 3/8 inches tall, 6 1/2 inches long from handle to spout, 3 5/8 inches wide. Weights 1 lbs 13 oz. Mid-century modern American pottery in sophisticated Taupe Gray Green, with Art Deco lines. "This same pitcher is on the cover of the standard guidebook to Alamo Pottery, a reference book that reads like a novel, by N. Perryman Collins. Alamo Pottery was made in San Antonio, Texas, between 1945 and 1951. Just seven years! That is a brief moment of time for any pottery company. During that time the company had more ups and downs and twists and turns than Texas tumbleweed, both with the work at hand and with the behind the scenes of the company leadership. It included mastering glaze problems, mastering mold problems and even mysterious manila envelopes filled with cash. The whole story would make a good movie. Amazingly, they made some mighty appealing pottery vessels, nonetheless. But with all of that going on, you can understand why Alamo items are somewhat scarce, one could even say rare. Unmarked pieces of Alamo pottery such as this one are in demand."
