Description: Excellent Borsalino, late 1940s to the early1950 (there was an OPS Office of Price Control tag under the leather sweatband that fell out and was laying in the bottom of the hat box, it has been glued back into place, see pictures), Dark Forrest Green Fedora, size 7-1/4. This is made from a mix of Beaver and Hare (English Rabbit, Read below). The Model name on this great hat is “ARDILLA”. This is a very RARE and hard to find fedora! Hats like this are just NOT manufactured anymore! The video is the picture gallery is what the hat would have looked like before removing from the hat box and steam shaping to what you see pictured now. That video is a similar Borsalino fedora that we took a video of before steam shaping the shaped. The name on the leather sweatband states: A CAMBINI FIRENZE but we have found nothing on the internet, no information at all! If anyone out there has any information we would greatly appreciate hearing back from you!We filled the picture gallery so you can see every detail! Nothing to hide on this great Vintage Borsalino fedora. We have seen only a couple of these hats that were still inside their original hat box. Borsalino Twenty Peluche, that was what was written on the leather sweatband. This one appears to be similar to those of the Same time period. This is NOT a Beaver Twenty though. It’s a mix of Beaver and Hare. While shaping this fedora it did not feel like it was made of only Beaver but a mix of Beaver and Hare (English Rabbit). It’s extremely soft and thick material to the touch and feel. It was very difficult for dad and I to give any exact estimation of the Beaver and Hare content but it’s a high quality hat! It does feel like it has more Hare than Beaver, it’s just how it felt while it was being steam shaped. The OPC tag included the price at that time was $20. $20 at that time was a lot of money for a hat! $20 would have been the price in 1950 for a Stetson Twenty. If there is anyone out there with better information please write to us. Thanks in advance.Dating this was easily done. The liner has the “Onion-Skin” type liner cover. This was used between 1948-1952. Also the O.P.C. Tags were only added to hat during those years. Post 1952, Then the thin plastic liner cover was used. Onion-Skin was a pre-Plastic cover that you see nowadays on nearly every hat that is sold. This one is NOT torn or broken. Because of natural aging it is no longer clear but has become opaque. You can barely see all the leathering though. We lightly pressed down on the onion skin liner cover and We believe it states the same thing found on the the leather sweatband? We were really surprised to find the liner was still completely intact and not broken. It is very delicate still. It’s as thin as tissue paper. If it does break after wearing it we would not be surprise but we will pack this with much love and care!So since this has been steam shaped and is so beautiful dad says this will NOT be folded back into that hat box! It takes quite a bit of time to steam shape a hat like this after coming out of that hat box after so many years! The hat and box will be very gently packed separately into a shipping box. Dad will NOT steam this to fit back inside the hat box! It’s just to beautifully shaped! If you do have any questions please write to us but please DO NOT ask to have it steamed back to fit back inside the hat box!The leather sweatband is still in Excellent condition! The satin liner has a bit of a wrinkle and some faint signs of the yellowish natural aging color. It is completely secured to the hat though.Dad only cleaned with a horsehair brush and it’s perfectly clean, no stains! NO MOTH BITES! And then steam shaped it into what you see now in the picture gallery. We don’t know why it doesn’t come out consistently in all the pictures? It’s all the same color, Forrest Green. The picture of the whole underside and looking down from the top of the hat best reflects the actual color. NOTE: the Diamond shaped hat box is included with the hat in the sale. It is still worthy of shipping and displaying along with the hat. NOTE a shipping outside the continental USA INCLUDES the hat box! NOTE: If you look at the very last picture you can see the Borsalino Hat Carrier that we have listed now, read the description and it’s item number 326206738917.This is an optional purchase ($64 in total, if bought with this fedora, this includes the extra cost of shipping) and NOT part of this sale! You must write to us FIRST if you are interested in buying this and adding this to the sale. We will discount the carrier and the hat will be inside the carrier. The brim will be turn up and all You’ll need to do is flip it back down. We have stored one of my grandson’s Borsalino’s inside now for over 2 weeks before listing these hat carriers and it is perfectly shaped when removed! Just had to flip the brim down. There is a size tag stating “5” (That’s the Italian hat size) and the under-tag that states the same size 5 but we know back at that time there was NO hat sizing standardization. This measures to a PERFECT 7-1/8. We actually measure the hat 3 times to determine the size, tagged or not, and it is and measures to a perfect size 7-1/8 at 22-3/8 inches, this agrees with the Tilley Hat Sizing chart. As we are looking at the sizing chart on the paper advertisement, it also agrees with our measurements. If you blow up the ad you can see the numbering systems. This is a size 7-1/8 Or 22-3/8 inches or 57 Length 12-1/4 inches Width 10-3/4 inches Height 4.75 inches, at the tallest point Matching Hatband .7 inches Wide Brim 2.2 inches The accent original feather set is still in very good condition, not perfect after all these years but looked great with this hat, see pictures. Take a look at dads other great vintage hat he has listed, we try and list couple each week. If you have any additional information or corrections, please write us. This is just a really great hat! Local pickup is always free. Ship with Fedex or USPS priority mail, whichever arrives quickest. Both costs a couple dollars more but they are very reliable and they do not crush or damage boxes, also much faster shipping. I Please see our 100% Ratings and very excellent feedback. Dad has collected hats for a lifetime and there are 100s of them, on shelves, stacked in closets and spare bedrooms. We are slowly listing these special hats weekly. We stand behind the eBay garentee and have NEVER had and issue with returns. We ask you to verify your hat size before you buy and we supply the maximum amount of pictures but if you need anything please write and ask. No Smoking - No Pets Thank You
