Description: The title of the book is misleading, it is an early textbook on Fashion Design and making clothing, not really about what we think of as costumes today. The book explains the entire process of creating clothing from scratch like a dressmaker or tailor, starting with measuring the person and going through designing, making patterns, changing sizes, choosing fabrics, understanding the characteristics of textiles, choosing colors etc. The book doesn’t have any instructions related to the actual sewing, I think the reader was expected to know how to sew, and the book is dedicated to members of the needle industry, so they were probably sewing by hand. Book is hardcover with a comb binder on the inside. The cover is in very good condition. The binder and the punched page edges are in good condition with no pages torn or bent, but pages have to be turned carefully as they can get hung up on the binder. There is some wear to the paper lining the inside of the cover at the bottom right corner, with the paper tearing loose from the first rung of the binder. There is a name written on the inside of the front cover in pencil near the lower left corner. There is wear along the right side edge of the paper lining the back cover. There are some smudges and fingerprints on some of the page edges. See photos.
