Description: VINTAGE FRENCH M1874 SWORD BAYONET & SCABBARD, TULLE SEPTEMBRE 1873 This listing is for a vintage French M1866 bayonet with stamped date of factory, month and year on top edge of blade “Tulle Septembre 1873”. The bayonet has a brass hilt with spring latching on right side (working) and a forward curved quillon (marked with what looks like the letter D inside a circle, hard to decipher). The steel cross guard has the same numbers that match the scabbard, looks like 44851, and features a screw rigged tightening opening on the muzzle ring. There is a Ricasso mark with circle-“M”. The steel, single edge, fullered, curved blade itself measures approx. 22-3/4" and overall length with handle is 27-1/2” (some rust as seen in photos, I have not attempted to clean the bayonet or scabbard). Included is a steel scabbard with number (looks like a script letter before the number but I cannot read it) 44851, with ball finial tip, and a French frog loop, alone it measures approx. 23-3/4" and with bayonet in place, the overall length is approx. 28-1/4".
