Description: Schildkrot baby celluloid doll with “Turtle Mark and mold number, 45. This is my 93 y/o mom’s doll. She has had her as long as I can remember. I will be listing another one of her dolls. For this doll’s age—almost 100 years old—, she is in very good condition. I will try to describe what I see, but I know nothing about dolls so please ask questions and for more pics if needed. Rheinische Gummi und Celluloid-FabrikSchildkrot - used the doll mark of a turtle symbol, a turtle inside a diamond, Schultzmarke. The number represents the mold. This doll has 45 marked on her neck. The vast majority of celluloid dolls were produced from 1900 through the 1940’s, although they have been using it since 1863. We think this one was made in the 1930’s. Unsure if this is the original dress, half slip, bloomers, shoes and socks. I know they are old because that is what she has worn the whole time mom had her. Always kept in a glass cabinet, away from sunshine. -Small smudge to right leg and a few marks on Right arm-see pic -Arms are loose, but the legs and head feel tighter. I don’t know about dolls, but I think her arms need to be restrung. -Has a little chip by her Right eye. -Made in Germany In 1930's -Jointed -Beautiful blue eyes -Platinum Blonde hand-painted, molded hair -High-quality celluloid sculpted body -From a very clean, non-smoking home. -No original box -weighs about .75 lb -measures -18” H Please study the pictures as I might miss something in the description. Celluloid is one of the first synthetic plastics ever created. It is a plastic created from wood products that include cellulose nitrate and camphor. First created in 1863, it was a popular material to make dolls from the 1870s through the 1930s.
