Description: This is an authentic vintage Syrian wooden mosaic tea tray. The tray has an octagon shape with inlaid wood and mother of pearl accents that creates a truly stunning mandala pattern. This is meant as a serving tray for a teapot and cups of tea but can be used for home decor as well. This hand-crafted tray is part of an ancient traditional technique that began in Damascus and has been practiced for hundreds of years. Artisans carefully cut pieces of wood and glue them in fine cavities of a walnut base tray. The surface is then sanded, smoothed and sealed. This work is done manually honoring a tradition of fine craftsmanship. Small pieces of native wood such as olive and lemon are grafted to the surface leaving a pattern that is unique to each tray making them true works of art. This piece is in great vintage condition with few small flecks of veneer worn off. The tray measures approximately 16 inches in diameter and 2 inches tall. It weighs just over 1 pound.
