Description: Incredible 1960s Mid Century Modern Folding Rope Lounge Chair in the style of Hans Wegner's "The Chair". This iconic chair silhouette completely embodies the essence of Danish Modern style; design is focused on function over form, it has a clean and sleek silhouette, and, the use of warm, natural materials in their purest form! These chairs are incredibly hard to come by in such good condition so don't let this one get away from you!This chair is incredibly well made (back when things were made to last, LOL! ) with mortise and tenon joints, solid brass hinges and of course, Danish paper cord woven seats. The frame is constructed from solid (what i believe is Beech) wood and finished in a deep, dark, walnut lacquer finish original to the piece. The wood itself is in excellent, sturdy, solid condition and the finish has a few signs of wear, but overall it looks really nice. From what i can see, there are a few nicks or scratches on the outsides of the legs, and your usual wear around the leg bases at the floor (see pictures).The woven Danish paper cord on the seat and backing looks amazing; it is original to the chair and so has naturally aged over the years and acquired that awesome, beautiful patina that paper cord was designed to do!! Being that the cord is paper, after all, it is to be expected that there will be some light wear to some areas (lightening), but from what i can tell i don't see any fraying or breakage at all to the cords!PLEASE NOTE: You might see a stray rope end wiggle its way out of the weave from time to time, but don't panic- its completely normal and once again just a characteristic of danish manufacturing techniques! The woven seat and back were woven in a completely self-securing way, meaning there are no nails in the construction to attach the woven seat to the frame. That being said, since the weave is once continuous piece of rope, every now and then, the end of one rope had to be tied onto a new piece to continue. Weavers did a great job of conspicuously weaving these knots into the back, bottom and sides of the chair where were they are least visible :-). If one should pop out during use, don't be alarmed; just take a chopstick or small utensil (or even your finger!) and help tuck it back into the chair weave.
