Description: Vintage Heisey Colonial Star No.1150 Bread & Butter Plate Please be sure to check our other auctions since we presently have, or soon will have, a number of Heisey items up for auction. This auction is for one (1) Vintage Heisey Colonial Bread & Butter Plate. This plate, which is 5/8” tall and 6” in diameter, is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, cloudiness or fleabites but has some shelf wear. It the Diamond H mark. It has a beautifully ground and polished bottom. It gives off an apple-green glow under black light. Heisey Glass was founded by Augustus H. Heisey in Newark, Ohio, because the Newark Board of Trade was actively seeking industry, there was an abundance of natural gas nearby, and plenty of low cost labor was available. Construction of the factory at 301 Oakwood Avenue began in 1895 and it opened in April of 1896 with one sixteen-pot furnace. Initially Heisey made pressed glass in designs imitating cut glass, using the latest machinery and complex patterns that were difficult to tell from genuine cut glass. Heisey also produced designs which were part imitation cut glass, with large areas of clear glass which made them suitable for decorating; this kind of glass was popular with the decorating companies which were flourishing at that time. Heisey produced suites of tableware around the turn of the century, the EAPG era, and then went on to be one of the prolific producers of glass tableware during the the Depression Era (the 1920's and 1930's). The Heisey family sold the entire company, including trademark, accounts, molds and all other assets to the Imperial Glass Company of Bellaire, Ohio in 1958. When Heisey closed the doors for Christmas vacation in 1957, they never opened again except to sell out the existing stock. Heisey owes its beauty to an excellent glass formula, high quality raw materials, and to the way it was finished–fire polishing and grinding and polishing the bottoms of most pieces. Heisey produced Colonial Star, their line No. 1150, from 1908 through 1930. (14516)
