Please check all the pictures for condition details. Red cedar and sweetgrass, together with tobacco and sage, are the four plants considered sacred to Indigenous, Inuit and Métis Peoples. The Salish peoples are indigenous peoples of the American and Canadian Pacific Northwest, identified by their use of the Salishan languages which diversified out of Proto-Salish between 3,000 and 6,000 years ago. This basket was made by a Salish artisan in British Columbia, Canada, and was purchased by the previous collector decades ago. A similar basket is among the collection of CSUDH’s SLICE Center (as shown in the last picture, and on the web page of https://news.csudh.edu/indian-baskets/) Notes 1.
