Description: This listing is for a vintage circa 1975 Israeli silkscreen poster titled "Batsheba" was made by the Shamir Bros and printed by Shohar in Tel Aviv, Israel. This poster measures 19" 27" with very vibrant colors. Gabriel and Maxim Shamir were Latvian-born Israeli graphic artists who are best known for designing the Israeli State Coat of Arms, which consists of a menorah and olive branches. This poster depicts an artistically nude Batsheba with King David looking down at her as she baths, and perhaps was inspired by Rembrandt's famous painting of "Bathsheba at Her Bath". Her name appears in English on an armband over the top her arm and in Hebrew in King David's beard. In the Torah, Batsheba, which is also sometimes spelled Bathsheba, was the wife of Uriah the Hittite and had an affair with King David and Solomon who later succeeded David as king. In the bottom left of the poster it reads "Shamir Bros." and "printed in Israel by shohar". The back of the poster has a sticker which reads "Batsheva 2206". Condition: There is some wear particularly to the corners and edges including a small tear on the bottom left hand side which has the most wear. There is some light curl to the top and bottom. Shipping: This will be shipped rolled up in a new 3" x 24" mailing tube. Please see the photos for more detail. Money-back guarantee.
