Description: Vintage Large Vintage Albert Gilles Signed Copper Repousse Relief Hanging Wall Art Mae West This unique copper relief's design was created exclusively for American actress Mae West in the 1950s-1960s, titled Helen of Troy, depicting the infamous capture of Helen of Troy by enemy gladiators. Created by well-know Canadian artist Albert Gilles (1895-1979). Using one of Canada's most popular natural resources, Albert Gilles created his copper pieces using the ancient technique of "Repousse". Starting with the a rough drawing, outlines are traced on a thin piece of metal, and hammered from the back to give it shape. Definition and detail are then added to the front by chasing or engraving. This rare and unique wall hanging measures 37" x 24" and weighs about 23 pounds. One corner is bent slightly as seen in pictures and there is some rust on the back. A sturdy wire on the back for hanging. Signed on bottom left "A.
