Description: For sale is this pair of antique 1920s Swiss Lion of Lucerne Bookends Pair with a Latin inscription. These antique cast iron bookends are finished in a metallic copper leaf. The bookends depict the famous wounded Lion of Lucerne Swiss monument, honoring Swiss Guards massacred in 1792 during the French Revolution. Designed by Bertel Thorvaldsen and carved in 1820–21 by Lukas Ahorn, the lion bears the inscription 'HELVETIORUM FIDEI AC VIRTUTI.' The reverse is Marked 'LION OF LUCERNE'.
