Description: Vintage Navy Special Projects P-3 Orion Lockheed Framed Poster Naval Aviation This is a REALLY cool piece. I picked up a total of 4 of these, all are related to Electronic Warfare/Sig Int projects produced by Lockheed (2 related to P-3 Orion, 2 Related to C-130 Hercules). I was able to date the posters to the period between 1978-1982 thanks to the EC-130H variant of being re-named mid production from Revit Fire to Compass Call. I assume all are from the same period. But what the hell are they? They do not appear to be commercially produced posers, I cannot find anything even close to these in my research. They appear to be like Unit Insignias, but for in-development weapons systems. Perhaps they were ordered by Lockheed to to use in pitches to military procurement buyers? Hard to say exactly. But the 'drill through the frame' mounting tactic is extremely common for government buildings; I think it very likely these were produced for Skunkworks (I found them only an hour away from Skunkworks in Palmdale, so this is geographically plausible). There's a very good chance these are in fact one-of-a-kind posters, just made one-off and used for a presentation once before being hung in the hall for a decade or two.Hard to say.
