Description: Antique / Vintage Night Mechanical Watchman Time Recording Tell-Tale Clock Dated 1910 - 40's Serial 222881 Brass, with cast iron backplate Mechanical wind-up mechanisum 2 keys Working order The purpose of these clocks is to record that a night watchman carried out his rounds at the required intervals (rather than sleeping!). Pressing the button on the top, marks the recording disk. The night watchman would use these to punch a tell-tale mark on the paper recording disc, showing the time he visited each station. The clock would be unlocked each day to be wound and have the disc changed ready for the next night. This is a rare unit and I cannot find another example! Unknown manufacture, but I would suggest either English or German. Good used condition for age, with some superficial wear, marks and scratches etc 17cm diameter x 8.5cm deep.
