Description: Vintage OFUNA 7x50 binocular made in occupied Japan, V.G. cond. w/ neck strap. THE GOOD:Essentially, a WW2 era military binocular design that was released as a commercial product immediately after the war. It has been cleaned and aligned and, unlike many others you will find offered for sale, this one has its body covering intact. The color of its view is totally natural. Clarity and sharpness are excellent and it is pleasantly bright for a binocular that doesn’t seem to have been given any anti-reflective coating. Using a 1951 U.S.A.F. resolution test target, set at 30 yards, this 7x50 resolved group -1, element 6 at center FOV and group -1, element 2 at three degrees off of center. Eye lenses measure about 15mm diameter. No scratches beyond micro on any lens as far as I can detectGreat depth of focus. No double vision and the unit is fungus free. The central hinge is firm and will hold IPD.The individual focusers turn smoothly yet are damped sufficiently to hold their position. The outer covering is intact and non-tacky to the touch.Screw slots are clean and sharp - not bunged from previous disassembly. No floating debris inside to blemish the view.Very few buff marks on the finish - mostly on edges that you would expect to be rubbed over time.External condition may be judged by the photos provided. THE BAD:Left side eye lens shows light etching from fungus that was caught in time before serious damage set in. This does not noticeably affect the view.
