Description: Green Lead Crystal octagon shaped Cup Plate has the Bald Eagle as seen on the Great Seal of the United States. This was made by Pairpoint Glass Co. in this design to celebrate America's Bicentennial in 1976. This hand pressed cup plate #9 is 3 3/8" wide. The Diamond P trademark is part of one of the arrows. This type of cup plate was used in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.Hot tea was served in cups without handles. The tea was poured into the saucer to cool then was drunk from the saucer. The cup was placed on the cup plate to protect the linen or the polished table. Hand pressed glass will have bubbles, swirls and ridges. This striking cup plate has other uses: a suncatcher, teabag holder, individual chocolate candy dish. See pictures for details. My listings have more cup plates. I combine shipping.
