Description: A very delicate and rare Peranakan Chinese hand-drawn (tulip) silk batik sarong. This type of sarong with blue and black on cream or white background is known as Sarong kelengan from Pekalongan. The colors suggest, it would have been suitable for use during mourning bt Peranakan Chinese, but also a tradition in Java and Sumatra. Please note that the blue-black top dyed kayo tinge is very deep, the brown has a golden tone and the ivory background is rich with a bluish tint. This silk sarong is in good vintage condition apart from few small holes at the outer edge and small tears. This type damage is due to the fragility of the silk. There are two faint stains and part of the seam going the pieces is loose, but easily repairable The silk sarong is stitched together for ease of wearing but it can easily be unpicked.
