Vintage Postcard - Harrison Fisher - The Trousseau (Wedding Dress)

Description: This wedding-themed postcard was printed around 1915. The artist who created the original artwork this was copied from was named Harrison Fisher. The name of the illustration was The Trousseau. Harrison Fisher (July 27, 1875 or 1877 – January 19, 1934) was an American illustrator. Fisher was born in Brooklyn, New York City and began to draw at an early age. Both his father and his grandfather were artists. Fisher spent much of his youth in San Francisco, and studied at the San Francisco Art Association. In 1898, he moved back to New York and began his career as a newspaper and magazine illustrator, working for the San Francisco Call and the San Francisco Examiner, drawing sketches and decorative work. He became known particularly for his drawings of women, which won him acclaim as the successor of Charles Dana Gibson. In this Divided Back Era (1907-15) card he apparently captures a couple at the dinner table in their new home The Card was produced by Reinthal & Newman, Publishers. When Albert E. Reinthal arrived in New York in 1896 he formed the publishing company of Reinthal & Gross. After this business dissolved he formed a new company to publish lithographic prints and postcards with Stephen L. Newman. Their cards were printed by American Colortype, Brett Lithography, Quardi-Color Co., and U.S. Litho. Other cards were printed for them in Europe. The card is in good condition but there are the remnants of some glue on the card's reverse which allowed it to be adhered to an album page. ©Charles Scribner's Sons, N. Y.
