Description: Being offered is an Orpheum arch top guitar from the 1930s. I do not know much about guitars but had a friend that has a large collection of guitars and also likes to play vintage guitars so I had him look at it. The following is what he told me. It features a beautiful thick V-neck back with a solid rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl inlay dots with nickel silver frets. It appears to have the original nut original solid rosewood, bridge, and original tuners. Fret Spout where the wood shrinkage on the neck is causing the frets to stick out over the wooden fingerboard is apparent, but has been addressed on the playable part of the neck. As is typical of Orpheum guitars of this vintage the binding is not binding. It is painted on. He said the action would be considered stiff or high however, this can easily be and cheaply addressed with anyone or combination of the following. One the original bridge can be put aside in another bridge from a supply house such as stew Mac maybe substituted to lower the action. To the original bridge may also be shaved down, but being original and Rosewood it would likely lower the value of the instrument. Three use light weight gauge strings. He also said for modern players the factory specs for high E string slot on the nut is slotted very close to the edge of the neck. It is entirely playable, but should you wish to gig this instrument your local Luther can fix it with a new nut that provides better more modern spacing. He also said whoever buys it he thinks will greatly enjoy owning the 85+ year old guitar. That was the end of his review. my follow up just from a sellers point of view. It looks to be in good shape and I’m not picking up any cracks. There are some edges that don’t quite meet all the way around where the binding goes and again my friend seemed to think that was due to shrinking. He said the neck was in good shape and the heel was tight so there’s no issues with that. This comes in a case not sure if it’s original or not. Looks to be in good shape if it is original. It’s the typical chance cardboard from that era so it very well could be original regardless it’ll come with it and will help protect it during shipping. Sorry, no buy it now on this as I have no idea what a fair price might be. I am actually listing this for a friend of mine. While I was getting ready to take the photos, I did notice one screw hole right beside the neck that was probably where a Picard may have been originally on the guitar. i’ve also noticed that the guitar strap Peg is gone. And it looks like some glue has dried on the bottom back and I can see a bit of a gap and again right beside there is a more severe mismatch of the back to the side of the guitar. It looks like it’s been a little bit, filled or painted over due to the shrinkage of the back of the wood. I did not do anything to this guitar. I recently purchased it at an estate sale, and I sell everything as found.
