Description: Vintage Richard Anuszkiewicz Op Art Enamel Bowl Made for Smithsonian Institute This stunning mid-century bowl by Op Art pioneer Richard Anuszkiewicz (protege of Josef Albers) was produced by the Hirshhorn Museum in 1976 in a very limited quantity and sold out almost immediately. Today, nearly half a century on, these bowls, with the bright orange designed exterior and robin blue interior, are desirable and stunning collectors' items - true design objects for any home. Signature fired onto the underside of bowl. A deep, orange exterior enamel on metal bowl with blue and green descending lines of various lengths in blues leading to green. The interior in blue. Anuszkiewicz was one of the founders of the Op Art movement in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He relied heavily on Victor Vasarely and Bridget Riley. Life magazine referred to Anuszkiewicz as "one of the new wizards of Op" in 1964. Dimensions are approximately 5.50 inches tall x 8.5 inches in diameter. Condition is very good. Wear consistent with age and use. Small chips around edge normal for age on enamel bowls. Minor rust at the sites where there is chipping as this is a metal bowl with an enamel coating. Surface scratches mainly to the bottom of the item. Please review all photos. We ship the next business day. Please ask any questions/look at all pictures and description carefully before purchasing.
