Description: repro pedals Front Axle Kit for Schwinn Script Hubs and New Departure WL Hubs This is a New Front 5/16" x 26 tpi Axle Replacement Kit for Vintage Schwinn Script Front Hubs and New Departure WL Front Hubs. We Like Original Vintage Schwinn Equipment, but more so Performance, in most cases on your old hubs have had years of use with out the proper adjustment, Leading to worn cones bent axles and crunchy movement. This New Axle Kit will add performance and reliability to your Old Bike's New Departure WL or with a Dust Cap modification your Schwinn Script Front Hub. Make Sure Your Hub's Cups are Clean, and Free of pits and Damage or a this new kit will not do you any good. The Axle is 5/16" Diameter and 5 5/32" wide or 131mm and has 26 Threads Per Inch (tpi). Nut Head is14mm or 9/16" Hex head drive. Back in the Day 5/16" x 26 tpi was common on quite a few hubs but they came with different thread pitches which means you cannot switch threaded parts between hubs. This axle kit should be used in its entirety for proper performance, cross using original threaded parts should not be done. I have found that this replacement is close to impossible to notice on your bike, the axle nuts are the only give away, but in some cases with Schwinn Script Hubs your original nuts will work and give you a unnoticeable look ( Try, Don't Force, If it Fits Snug, then you can use the Originals). For New Departure WL Hubs the smaller front hub ( Easy & Nice) works great with original Hub shell with original bearings. The New Dust Caps Line up nice. Easy Fix. Must Use axle Kit in its Entirety. For Schwinn Script (Easy) Original Dust caps must be removed and works with original Hub shell with original bearings. Works but dust caps don't line up, only giving you limited protection. Use axle Kit in its Entirety but maybe with Original Axle Nuts. For Schwinn Script (Nice but Tech) Original Dust caps must be removed and the hole in the dust came needs to be honed out a tad so the new cones insert freely. This is tricky and Requires shop skills, we find a small sanding drum to work fine. Remove the new Dust Caps from the new axle cones as they are not needed. Use the Original Script Hub shell with original bearings and original honed out dust caps (your dust caps may need a little messaging to get them back in shape), Use axle Kit in its Entirety (minus new dust caps) but maybe with Original Axle Nuts. Properly done this Axle kit should boost many miles on your old ride. Be sure to tighten the cones and lock nuts properly, hub should spin freely with no play, (no grind too tight or play too loose). Proper Original Bearings should be used and your Hub's Cups should Clean, and Free of pits and Damage. A Schwinn Script Hub has pressed in Cups and the New D WL Cups are part of the shell. Sorry, I Do Not have original bearings, and I spent quite a bit of time giving you as much information on this fix, I Cannot continue with questions, it is all here, a general knowledge of bicycle repair is required to use this product. In rare cases and former improper repair may have changed the hubs make up, making your repair confusing, you will need to get original information on your hub and unfortunately it may be beyond repair. May work in New Departure W Hubs but the dust caps will not line up. Most likely will not Fit the later Cheeepo Schwinn Hubs. Buy as needed or Buy multiples and save on shipping.
