The company was founded in 1878 by Tashiro Ichiroji. The company was originally named Tashiro-ya, and later became Tashiro Shoten, and then later again changed its name to Tashiro and Company Ltd. The word "Shoten" indicates a shop which is selling products from its own kiln. The company was a big wholesale ceramics merchant and also produced Japanese Kutani porcelain. The porcelain was hand painted in the Yokohama studio. The company owned the brands Gold Castle, Trico, and Royal Trico. The pieces were distinctively decorated, sometimes by Kutani trained artists. The company ended production in 1954.
