Description: From my personal collection. Played once to rip, then returned to its case. Review from an Amazon buyer:nycjazzpiano5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Giants!Reviewed in the United States πΊπΈ on February 22, 2002It was for good reason that Sonny Stitt said that Von Freeman was "one of the guys playing in the big leagues," and that Roland Kirk swore by him and produced the first record under Von's name for Atlantic in the 1960's. Since then Von has only gotten better. The rhythm section for this live date was solid and Von was on fire. His distinctive sound is a mix of Dexter, Gene Ammons, Stitt, Trane and rich tradition. His solos on the up tempo numbers are exciting and inventive. For me, his ballad playing is as moving as anything you've ever heard. If you love jazz, and you love major tenor players, this album, and Von Freeman are for you. Enjoy!
