Description: This amazing and charming Santa figure measures about 11” tall . It should be closer to 12” but somewhere along the way, Santa lost both of his feet and the boots that were on them. However he manages quite well despite Mrs. Clause’s refusal to help or comfort her husband of nearly 5 centuries, because it’s “enabling his addiction to sweets.” CONDITION - GOOD FEET - NOT SO GOOD I remember this Santa always being part of my family’s Christmas decor and my clever mother (who may well have been the culprit) always placed him in this wooden sleigh that was hand painted green (also from Japan) and surrounded him with a dozen or more tiny presents that would cover his missing appendages. So I’m trying to tell you Santa has no feet and can’t stand on his own. Fortunately, while it’s not pretty to look at its easy to hide. *And as a side note, his missing feet also revealed that the Santa shell is made from cardboard and then made hard by using the paper mache technique.) There is just the right amount of wear and toy patina if you will to make this antique so appealing His clothes and face and beard are somewhat disheveled, dusty and aged. He’s missing the Pom Pom on his hat, there is some pilling on his felt suit etc… FACE & EYES But it must be recognized that there IS a special twinkle in this Santa’s eyes. Really. If his gaze is on you, it just melts your heart. It is no doubt due to the fact that his face was probably hand painted. HEAD Which reminds me, the head on Santa here is a sort of bobble head. When jostled it will bounce around much like a bobble head but the head can rest in a number of positions as you can see in photos. MADE IN … PLACE? MADE IN…YEAR? I recall there was a “Japan” sticker on Santa’s back once upon a time. And my mother RIP b. 1933 spoke of this Santa as having been a part of her childhood. PLEA So this Santa needs a new home with folks who will not see him as only disabled but as a very sweet, friendly and jolly Santa indeed. Mrs. Clause has, sadly, already moved on and in with Frosty the Snowman. But the joke’s on her because as you can imagine, as soon as things start to get hot and heavy…Frosty will turn into a huge puddle of soggy regret.
