Description: This is compass is a very high quality cast aluminum copy of the famous Brunton Pocket Transit Compass designed by Colorado mining engineer D. W. Brunton. This compass and pocket transit measures 2 3/4 in. Wide, 3 inches tall, 1 5/16 thick, and weighs 8.6 ounces. The compass has rare earth magnets and steeled to North VERY quickly. The specifications are the same as the Brunton: 1/2 degree accuracy in azimuth and 10 arc minutes in vertical angle. The compass needle is balanced for the northern hemisphere. It comes with case with a front snap and rear belt loop. There is also a key (or you can use a standard screwdriver) for the slotted screw on the outside of the case that turns a gear that rotates the azimuth ring to adjust your local magnetic declination angle. Closing the kid moves a needle lift mechanism that protects the jewel bearing when transporting the compass. Turning the compass on its side and adjusting the spirt level allows for an altitude angle measurement. The lid contains a natural sine table. This is a high quality piece.
