Description: Offered is a nice vintage Mara of Moriela Mexico Art pottery 16 oz. stoneware mug featuring four different etched owls sitting on a branch. It's a hefty mug that weighs approximately 1 lb 8.2 oz. prior to packaging and stands approximately 4 1/4" tall with a 3 7/8" rim diameter. Signed on the base with "Design by Mara - Mexico - 4 - J". Condition: Very good condition with no chips, nicks, cracks or repairs. As is usual with high fired hand made art pottery there are some glaze pops and a tiny piece of imperfectly smoothed ceramic material as shown in the last photo. About the artist: Mara, an accomplished painter, sculptor and ceramicist, studied engraving with the famous artist Alfredo Zalce, who painted many portraits of his lovely artist protege. After studying art in London, she began working in with high-temperature ceramics and created wonderfully unique glazes for her pieces. She then went on to study with the Italian ceramist, Bruno Terese, in Italy. Mara has had numerous expositions of her original pieces in Europe, the United States and Mexico. This is a beautiful mug that's very smooth to the touch and is perfect for snuggling down with hot or cold drinks or soups in the winter.
