The original was published in 1928 in 2 Volumes in an edition limited to 1000 copies and is now extremely rare and valuable, though even this First Trade edition is now hard to come by. It is an impressive monograph by this intrepid Masonic author and researcher – “a Classic of Folklore, Anthropology and Iconography, with 136 Rare Illustrations from Sources ranging from the Ancient Egyptians to the American Indians.” It has also been characterized as “a classic of occult lore” and “a treasure-trove of rare information not only for students of the occult, but for cultural anthropologists, ethnographers and, because of its wealth of material on iconography, historians of art and those interested in the fascinating area shared by art and religion.” It's printed throughout on thick, acid-free, almost indestructible clay paper.
