Description: We Japanese Book One 1935 Second Printing CONDITION & FEATURES: The book’s cover features an attractive dragon and cloud pattern stitched with fine simmering thread. Some minor fraying at the lower corner can be seen from the photos. Printed photo of Mt Fuji has been protected from transference by the vintage glassine page shown in the photos. Final page in Japanese contains publication information, including at its top a square area outlined by dotted line where it reads 不許複製 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘥 is the red seal impression of the editor and publisher 山口正造 Yamaguchi Shōzō. It isn’t every copy that features this seal. (One can find his photo on page 162 under the section on an International Mustache Club.) Binding is tight and most pages are clean and bright with reflective flecks embedded in the pages’ paper throughout. However, there is some light foxing to the occasional page, a soil spot appearing to be a fingerprint at the edge of the preface page and page 16 (see photo) has some discoloration. The traditional protective wrapping boards have a great deal of fading and wear on their outer sides. Their inner sides are still appealing, though do show some outward tanning and there is some discoloration in a corner. This publication saw two subsequent volumes, each with their content different from the others. By the time of the third and final volume’s publication, three volume sets were being published in like formats and combined forms. This copy is an example of the earlier and more elegant of the publication’s presentation. Photos are considered part of this listing’s description.
