Description: Creamware Vielleuse Food Warmer This exquisite Veilleuse or Food Warmer Teapot Set is by Josiah Wedgwood circa 1800."Veilleuse" is a french word derived from the word "veiller" - "to keep a night vigil" It originally referred to any night lamp, but soon it was applied to warmers for food or drink intended for bedside use. This assembled set consists of a tall cylindrical base with pierced open work design of a flowering leaf and two handles, a liner, a covered double-loop handled bowl insert with spout and teapot with cover. The base and food bowl are impressed "Wedgwood". The teapot is unmarked however there are marked examples with this shape. . Base Approx 7"H X 8.5"W, Teapot approx. 7" X 6". Provenance: Prominent private collection Documentation: Victoria and Albert Museum Accession Number c.26 to B-1945, Griselda Lewis "Collector's History of English Pottery p.114. Condition: Base has two cracks, a chip and wear to edges, liner is nice but does not fit into base exactly and don't want to force it (believe this is due to the cracking on the side where the piece is no longer perfectly round, food warmer is excellent, rub to spout and missing lid, teapot has two hairline to rim, chip to spout, wear and flaking to edges, otherwise minor imperfections to be expected.
