Description: Product Name: Weld Powder Scientific Name: Reseda Luteola L Weld, also known as dyer's rocket, dyer's weed, dyer's mignonette, or gaude, is a natural dye plant used to obtain a range of lightfast and wash-resistant yellow colors. Weld can be combined with indigo or woad to achieve shades of emerald and leafy greens. How Weld Powder is produced: Weld is a biennial dye plant native to Western Asia and the Mediterranean region. At Themazi, we source our weld from local producers in Anatolia. During the summer, we have a few local producers who collect it for us. We visit their villages, gather the plant, bring it here for processing, and package it for you. Historical usage of Weld: The use of weld in dyeing dates back to the Neolithic era. It was widely employed in dye and pigment production throughout the Middle Ages and was one of the dyes used for the threads in the Bayeux Tapestry. It remained one of the most popular yellow dyes until the 18th century. How to use Weld Powder for dyeing: Ensure that your fiber/fabric is properly cleaned and mordanted before use. Use a minimum of 50 grams of weld powder for dyeing approximately 100 grams of fiber. Weld powder is suitable for cold, hot, and one-bath dyeing techniques. For a cold dye bath, pour boiling water over the powder and let the mixture cool before adding the fabric/fiber. Leave it to steep for several hours or overnight, stirring occasionally. For brighter yellows, simmer the mixture for an hour before adding the fabric/fiber. Grey/green shades can be achieved by immersing the dyed fiber in an iron sulfate solution.
