(Brand New in Box) The trials specific ENO freewheel was developed specifically for trials riding. Typically the trials freewheel is installed on the crank arm and a fixed gear is used at the hub. The two main issues with trials is quick engagement and durability of the freewheel. The trials version addresses both of these concerns. We have designed a specific outer gear case that is beefier than our standard freewheel. The case, like all our freewheels, is made out of 8620 steel, cased hardened and then electroless nickel plated. In short, made to last. The engagement system is a six pawl system yielding 72 points of engagement, double that of our standard freewheel. Can this freewheel be used in a typical single speed non trials application? Certainly. Available in 18t only. Made in the USA. Freewheels have long been the Achilles' heel of the single speed industry. The problem has been twofold; 1) dirt gets inside and gums up the mechanism 2) the inexpensive freewheel unit is not precision enough and bearings are easily compromised. Both of these problems plague the consistent engagement of the typical or average inexpensive freewheel. Sometime it may engage at 15 degrees and sometime it may engage at 9 degrees. A true precision freewheel will engage at precisely 10 degrees consistently. Consistent engagement is necessary for proper training and conditioning and is MORE IMPORTANT than having more engagement points. I would rather have a precision freewheel with 36 engagement points that a cassette with 72 engagement points that is NOT precision quality. COMPARE: as true Precision cassettes are typically well over $500 just for the parts. Think about it! The Freewheel is the most complex and technically advanced part of the bike and most of us go out and spend $17 on a cheap freewheel. If you are going to buy $130 Headsets and advanced frame designs you might as well step up to the plate here first. White Freewheels have superior seals and do not require much maintenance, HOWEVER they are completely rebuildable by the average bike enthusiast.
