Description: This is a rare program (playbill) from the Post-Broadway engagement of the RAYMOND HUBBELL, ANNE CALDWELL and R. H. BURNSIDE musical comedy "THREE CHEERS" at the Colonial Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts. (The Original Broadway production opened October 15th, 1928 at the Globe Theatre in New York City and closed April 13th, 1929 after 210 performances.) ..... The musical starred WILL ROGERS (Pinch hitting for FRED STONE) and DOROTHY STONE and featured ANDREW TOMBES, ALAN EDWARDS, EDWARD ALLAN, ROBERT BALDWIN, OSCAR RAGLAND, JOHN LAMBERT, WILLIAM TORPEY, JANET VELIE, MAUDE EBURNE, PATSY KELLY, EVANGELINE RALEIGH, ALTHEA HEINLY, CYNTHIA FOLEY, PHYLLIS RAE, KATHRYN HEREFORD, RALPH THOMSON, CHARLES MAST, WILLIAM KERSCHELL and the TILLER SUNSHINE GIRLS ..... Side note: On August 3rd, 1928, FRED STONE was critically injured in an airplane crash just before rehearsals were to begin for this show. In addition to many other broken bones, his legs were crushed and he was told he would never dance again. His good friend WILL ROGERS filled in for Fred in Three Cheers and was a resounding hit. Stone worked at therapy relentlessly until he proved his doctors wrong and returned to the stage in the musical Ripples which opened February 11th, 1930 at the New Amsterdam Theatre in New York City. Ironically, Three Cheers was Will Rogers' final Broadway stage appearance as he was tragically killed in an airplane crash in Alaska on August 15th, 1935. (Wikipedia) .....
