Willi Baumeister 1956 rare London exhibition catalogue Joseph Fassbender cover

Description: A very scarce item, a German produced catalogue for an exhibition of the paintings of the acclaimed German painter, designer and typographer Willi Baumeister (1889 -1955), which was held at The Institute of Contemporary Arts in Dover Street, London between 23 February and 7 April 1956. The cover of the catalogue is designed by award-winning German painter and draughtsman Joseph Fassbender (1903 - 1974). 'Willi Baumeister : Paintings - An Exhibition of Deutscher Kunstrat ' published by Eggebrecht Press in Mainz in advance of the start of the exhibition in February 1956, 1st edition, small fold-out booklet in wraps, wraps measure 7in by just under 6in, unpaginated (16 pages). Cover design by Joseph Fassbender, b&w photographs by Dr. Salchow of Cologne. An introduction by English art historian, critic and anarchist Herbert Read, and a short essay by German art historian and critic Will Grohmann. In overall very good+ condition, no inscriptions, some light markings within but pages generally clean, light general wear and marks to wrappers, heavily rusted staples with occasional 'leakage' (see photos). ** A decent copy of this very uncommon exhibition catalogue booklet.
