Description: This is a rare single page advertising handbill (flyer) promoting the three-week, Pre-Broadway engagement of the SIG HERZIG, JOHNNY BURKE and JAMES VAN HEUSEN musical comedy "NELLIE BLY" at the Shubert Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts beginning December 18th, 1945. (The production would open January 21st, 1946 at the Adelphi Theatre in New York City and close February 2nd, 1946 after only sixteen performances.) ..... The musical starred WILLIAM GAXTON and VICTOR MOORE and featured MARILYN MAXWELL in the title role (replaced out-of-town by JOY HODGES), BENAY VENUTA, LUBOV ROUDENKO, JACK WHITNEY, BIL and CORA BAIRD (roles eliminated in Boston), The DEBONAIRS, EDWARD H. This single page, two-sided handbill measures 6" X 9" inches and includes individual photos of each of the two stars, production credits and partial cast list on the front and promotional text and individual photos of three female stars on the backside ..... CONDITION: With the exception of creasing along the right side, minor soiling in the left margin of the backside and a fold across the middle, this rare flyer is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
