William H. Taft autograph handwritten letter signature PSA / DNA

Description: PSA/DNA certified autographed letter signed "Wm. H. Taft,". One page, 5.5 x 9, on War Department letterhead with accompanying envelope, post marked from Canada July 17, 1904. Handwritten letter to Alexander C. Sands, Jr., a well-known newspaper man of Cincinnati, Ohio, in full: “I have written Cortelyou as you request." In fine condition, with light offsetting to the text from premature folding. Taft served as Secretary of War under Theodore Roosevelt from 1904 to 1908; George B. Cortelyou served variously as Secretary of Commerce and Labor, Postmaster General, and Secretary of the Treasury in Roosevelt's administration. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Taft's hand. Also includes a high-quality matte-finish portrait. Any scratches are on the holder unless otherwise noted.
