WinRadio WR-G39DDCe Excelsior Premium Mil-Spec Receiver APCO 25 & Digital Suite

Description: This sale is for a new and elite mil-spec SDR receiver manufactured by WinRadio (serial #13H27061). Purchasing the WR-G39DDCe unit is typically beyond the means for most serious buyers as it was sold into the government and military marketplace for monitoring and surveillance. Manufactured to the highest standards and covering frequencies from 9 KHz to 3500 MHz, this receiver is considered one of the premium SDR receivers available and it offers some amazing features. Please note that because this is a government version, it is unblocked through its entire receiving spectrum! We were able to obtain a new receiver that was surplus. It has all the original unopened software envelopes (G39DDC operating software, APCO 25 software, and the Advanced Digital Suite software). The unit is in perfect cosmetic condition as it has remained in its box since acquisition from WinRadio, but we do want to mention that the box has some very minor signs of storage damage. As mentioned, this particular unit has the APCO 25 digital decoder installed and comes with the Advanced Digital Suite software package. The APCO 25 software enables the receiver to be able to pick up the digital APCO P25 Phase 1 signals. If Phase 2 signals need to be decoded, a separate WR-DRD-172 dongle can be purchased from Aventas Inc. to enable such signals to be received. The Advanced Digital Suite opens up another world of listening and monitoring by offering the following digital facilities for the receiver: Advanced FAX Module (WEFAX and HF Fax) with a scheduler Advanced NAVTEX Decoder with a scheduler Advanced Packet Radio Decoder Advanced ACARS Decoder with a code database Advanced Signaling Decoder (CTCSS and DTMF) with alarms Advanced Signal Classifier Advanced Audio Oscilloscope and Spectrum Analyzer with waterfall spectra Advanced Signal Conditioner with numerous user-defined filters Advanced Audio Recorder with pitch shift and speed control The retail price for this receiver from WinRadio is $5745.00. The retail of the APCO 25 digital converter is $344.95 and the price of the Advanced Digital Suite package is $229.95. This brings the normal purchase price of this WR-G39DDCe package as offered to about $6,300.00.WinRadio has named this particular receiver "Excelsior". The Latin word means "ever upward" or "loftier". In everyday vernacular, we would say that the name means superior or a unit that "excels". And the name choice is very fitting for this receiver that has been described as such by Bob Grove in his Monitoring Times review:"I ordinarily find something to complain about in my reviews, but trying to find something I don't like about the G39DDCe has left me at a loss and that's a gain for this winner. This is a receiver that we expect to see adopted eagerly by government, military, and professional users for SIGINT, signals surveillance, laboratory R&D, test bench applications, and other analytical applications."While most SDR receivers require tremendous computational power to operate efficiently and properly, the Excelsior was designed to operate from Windows 7, 8, 10 or 11 requiring only a PC with a quad cord processor of 2 GHz or more. Connection to your computer is via a USB cable that imports into a free USB 2.0 input jack. The receiver is built like a brick and this is owing to the oversize heat sink (and miniature fan) designed to keep the internals cool due to the rigorous demands when actively operating on a schedule of 24-7-365. The design engineers of the Excelsior knew that this receiver would be placed in the most demanding applications and so every effort was made to assure that the SDR would withstand punishing operation. In his RadioUser magazine review, Mike Richards offers some helpful insights into the operational features of the G39DDCe Excelsior:"The search speed is 1GHz per second and with that sort of speed, you can catch about any transmission on a given band of frequencies. One area that's always difficult to monitor is the military airband because it's nearly 200 MHz wide and often has only a small number of active stations, each of which make very short duration transmissions. Conventional scanners are often too slow and it's pot luck if they hit upon an open channel. The Excelsior can whip across the entire 200 MHz military air band at just over five times per second so that you don't miss a thing. In addition to ultrafast searching, the Excelsior provides dual channels with a sensitivity of 0.11 on SSB (.05 on CW) and a tuning stability of 0.5 parts per million (ppm) throughout its entire operating range. The receive bandwidth is also continuously adjustable down to 1 Hz"On HF frequencies, Mike had this to say:"I tried the Excelsior during a very busy SSB contest and it handled this very well. The superb filtering made it very easy to separate out the signals and the recovered audio was excellent.I also used the Excelsior to monitor short and medium wave broadcast stations and again it performed extremely well and I especially liked the synchronous AM demodulator. This locked on quickly and produced excellent audio quality. The infinitely adjustable filters and visual displays were especially useful for broadcast work because I could clearly see the interfering signals and adjust the bandwidth filters and notch filters to suit"What many listening enthusiasts will appreciate is the ability to record the signals across 4 MHz of bandwidth and apply preamp, notch, IF bandwidth, noise blanker, gain, squelch, listening mode, and other tools to hear and clean up the signal. The spectrum analyzer can display a 16 MHz wide swath of frequencies and the scan speed of the Excelsior is rated at 80,000 channels per second! If you see a signal on the spectrum display, you can point and click with your mouse and be instantly on frequency with the signal. With the three displays, there is a facility to zoom in for a closer look and save a bitmap image of the current spectrum display. We have placed a picture of the graphic interface in our picture section at the top of this listing. In addition, the Excelsior offers two separate receiver consoles so that you can set up individual controls for each receiver and easily switch between the two receivers for different spheres of monitoring.WinRadio's specs for the Excelsior:Receiver typeDual DDC software-defined receiver with up-converter superheterodyne front endFrequency range9 kHz to 3500 MHzTuning resolution1 HzModeAM, AMS, CW, LSB, USB, ISB, DSB, FMN, FMW (stereo), FSK, UDM (user-defineable mode), DRM (optional)Image Rejection90 dB (< 50 MHz) 75 dB (50 - 500 MHz) 77 dB (> 500 MHz)IP3+6 dBm typ.
