Description: Original WW1 British Army TRENCH MAP featuring "BAPAUME" with trench corrections to 7th October 1916. SHEET 57C NW 3 - Edition 1AScale 1:10,000 - a scale normally used by infantry officers, although this example has '39 SIEGE' pencilled on the back. (39th SIEGE BATTERY was a HEAVY HOWITZER artillery unit.) Strategically speaking, Bapaume was actually one of the major locations of interest beyond the German frontline during the planning of The Battle of The Somme, but ultimately this objective wasn't reached and Bapaume wasn't actually captured until 17th March 1917.Interestingly, this edition came out just three weeks after the British unleashed tanks on the Germans for the first time, and the latest editions began to include information for tanks such as ditch depths, widths and other ground information (see photos). Features locations such as BAPAUME, IRLES, GREVILLERS, ACHIET LE PETIT, ACHIET LE GRAND, SAPIGNIES, FAVREUIL, BIHUCOURT, LOUPART WOOD etc Please see my other WW1 (and WW2) maps, documents, photos etc. International parcels will be fully tracked.
