Description: Pair of WW1 era Framed Documents to same American soldier. Died in Service. Henry Brackett, Blairsville, GA, July 1918. The one document is the French memorial document given to families of US Soldiers that Died in Service and the other document is the American Died in Service document (Meritorious Service Citation Certificate). Size of frames approximately 25 inches x 22 inches for the one frame and 26 inches x 19 1/2 inches for the other frame. Worn condition with some chipping to high points of frames. Additional Notes: The American WW1 Wounded or Died in Service certificate is also known as a Meritorious Service Citation Certificate. They were given to both the dead (Died in Service) and wounded of the AEF after the war before the introduction of the Purple Heart in February of 1932 (recipients of this citation could apply for a Purple Heart). The documents read at the top, “Columbia Gives To Her Son The Accolade Of The New Chivalry Of Humanity.” Some are detailed enough to show the soldier’s unit while others just list their branch of service.
