Description: Original WW2 German map of OCCUPIED POLAND featuring RZEPIN (REPPEN), KOSTRZYN (KUSTRIN), TORZYM (STERNBERG), GORZOW WIELKOPOLSKI (LANDSBERG), SLONSK (SONNENBURG), FRANKFURT AN DER ODER etc Printed in 1940, it covers an area of Germany and occupied Poland. The original Polish territory makes up most of the map, but by 1940 the entire area was under German control. The map was clearly captured by the Allies, and eventually found its way to the map library of the M.O.D.'s 'Directorate of Military Survey', before it was finally removed from the British military archive with a pair of 'CANCELLED' ink stamps. (Before reaching the M.O.D. I believe the map probably spent a number of years in FRANKFURT at the 'Institute for Applied Geodesy' (IfAG), which used existing German maps to assist with the Allies' Cold War mapping of Germany. Whilst there are no specific ink stamps present to confirm this, I have other maps from this source which followed the same route through the archives.) From a large collection recently sold off by Edinburgh University - hence their own ink stamping to margin. (From time to time, the government distributes excess stocks of its military maps to various national institutions such as libraries, museums, universities etc.) Please see my other WW2 (and WW1) maps, photos, documents, kit etc. (Seller's Ref - U1060)
