Description: For sale here is a SUPERB pair of WW2 German Pre War M35 Schnurschuhe Black Leather Hobnail Ankle Low Boots. I was unable to find another reference to these anywhere, but being 1935 dated, they certainly aren't M37's, and there is quite a bit of construction difference. I am assuming these would be M35's as the Germans had quite a bit of equipment coming online in '35. These boots are maker marked Leo Schmidt O.H.G Munchen 15 1935. The stamp on the left boot is nice and crisp, but the right boot stamping is just faintly visible. This is a matched pair of boots. Both are size marked 40B. These DO NOT SMELL LIKE LEATHER! They have a slightly old smell. The uppers are made of black leather, which remains extremely supple. The black stitching is all present and all strong. The black painted rivets and shoe lace grommets show minor paint loss, but are in great overall condition. Both boots have original black cotton laces with black steel tips. The soles have a stacked leather heel with a thick black rubber cap that is nailed in place and marked 39 40. The remainder of the sole is a double thick leather sole that has a double line of white stitching holding it in place. The soles are both embossed 0 40 B, and they both have some sort of black ink stamp in this area. The toe box areas are covered in silver hobnails and both should have toe taps. The right boot has 27 hobnails and a silver toe tap. The left boot is missing the toe tap and two hobnails, which leaves 24 hobnails. The hobnails and toe tap can be replaced fairly easily. The exterior of the boots show light age, storage wear, and handling, but they both appear to be unworn. Inside, the boots are both marked 2 79 on the upper inner black banding. There are no other marks that i can see inside. The boots are unlined and have a nice supple and soft grey suede leather inside. The toe box appears to be lined in white cotton. There are no insoles, but there is some light brown suede leather nailed into place on the bottoms. From the inside, it is very clear that these have NOT been worn. On the bottom, the boot measures approximately 11" long, and the toe box is 4 1/8" wide at the widest point. A German size 40 boot is roughly the size of a US 9 1/2, and this would seem about right based on the measurements. This is a rare unworn pre war boot. This will be difficult to upgrade, and, and this earlier version may prove impossible to find.
