Description: A SECOND WORLD WAR ERA SPANISH M.1943 BAYONET AND SCABBARD, A DIRECT COPY OF THE GERMAN Kar 98 MAUSER SEITINGEWEHR S84/98 3RD TYPE BAYONET, MANUFACTURED TO EQUIP THE SPANISH M.1943 7.92mm MAUSER. This Second World War era Spanish bayonet designated as the Cuchillo Bayoneta Standard Modelo 1943 Español or M.1943 by Juan L. Calvó in his book ‘Armamento Reglamentario Y Auxiliar Del Ejercito Español, Libro N.° 4, Modelos Portátiles de Repetición Automáticos Y Ametralladores 1922-1974’. It was intended for use with the Spanish made M.1943 Mauser and the earlier Standard-Model rifle. Copied from the German Sg84/98 Third Type, the blade is thinner and lighter and the method of construction is less robust than the German bayonets. The scabbard is patterned after the M1884/98, except that it is narrower and has no visible throatpiece. Made for the Spanish volunteers who fought with the Wehrmacht’s 250. Infanterie-Division ("Blaue Division") on the Eastern Front. This bayonet has 3032 stock# and is marked H on the spine and there is no markings on the scabbard which is usual with Spanish M.1943’s The bayonet is in good original condition as is the steel scabbard which is fitted with a broad pattern frog stud and both have at some paint been black painted, the remains of which are still visible on the scabbard (see pictures). There is a dent on both sides of the scabbard but it doesn’t stop the bayonet from going in or out. The steel blade is in excellent original condition and retains much of its original blued finish while the hilt is still fitted with its original hard wood grips (see pictures). The pommel is stamped with the Spanish armoury number 3032. The steel scabbard is in fair condition, serviceable with dents and traces of the black paint it acquired in service. The original ‘used’ patina on this bayonet is particularly noteworthy. If like me you prefer the weapons in your collection to exhibit evidence of use consistent with age and employment then this example is spot on. This is a very good example Cuchillo Bayoneta Standard Modelo 1943 Español: steel hilt with a round steel press button and internal spring marked with the Spanish armoury number 3032 on the pommel (see pictures), two-piece hard wood grips with rectangular oil hole and no flash guard, secured by two steel screw bolts, steel crossguard with part muzzle ring and truncated quillon. Single edged short blued sharpened steel blade. Please view all pictures (zoom in) and ask questions before bidding / buying. I am not an expert only know what we have researched online.
