Description: Original WW2 THIRD REICH military map of HUNGARY, SLOVAKIA & POLAND entitled "UNGVAR". UNGVAR is in HUNGARY, but there were clearly some ongoing boundary issues between various nations at the time this map was produced. The former Polish territory is split between Germany and Russia, and Slovakia's boundary with Hungary is shown in red and referred to in the margin (see main photo). The note in the margin reads...."Die Grenze ist nach der Karte festgesetzt: bei der endgültigen Festlegung in der Natur konnen sich noch Abweichungen ergeben"....which confirms that there may be some deviations in this boundary 'on the ground'. Produced in 1940 by Austria's military mapping services which were under the control of Germany following the country's 'Annexation' in 1938. The map was clearly captured by the Allies, and found its way to the British official archives, before it was finally removed from the War Office with a 'CANCELLED' ink stamp. From a large collection recently sold off by Edinburgh University - hence their own ink stamping to margin. (From time to time, the government distributes excess stocks of Allied maps, along with captured enemy examples, to various national institutions such as libraries, museums, universities etc.) Has never been folded, so will be shipped rolled in a cardboard tube.
