Description: This web ammo belt is "New Old Stock" (NOS) tied w/ original string; it has never had cartridges pushed into it. The starter tabs on each end are steel; each marked "C 3951," probably a part # from a subcontractor--I have seen the same # on a British made belt dated 1945 w/ starter tab also marked "30 CAL." There are a couple small surface rust spots on starter tabs. These belts were also made of khaki webbing during the war years, w/ web starter tabs. This belt is marked in increments of 25 rounds, so the gun crew could see how many rounds remaining in the belt. Unlike the disintegrating metal link belts, these web belts could not be connected or joined together. Web MG ammo belts were also used by GIs as improvised slings, carry straps, and tie-downs.
