Description: A small but attractive collection of Canadian Expidetionary Force badges that have been mounted on a possible Lee Enfield wooden shoulder stock. The date of the rifle stock is unknown. This nay suggests that this item was made later than the Great War issue The badges mounted on this incomplete gun stock include: *A Brass Epaulette CGA (Canadian Garrison Artillery. *Brass "Canada" Epaulette. *Cape Breton Highlanders Cap Badge# *102nd CEF Cap Badge "Northern British Columbia". *Brass Button 16th Canadian Scottish. *A Brass Epaulette "INF" (Infantry) *An unattached late model Lee Enfield hinged swivel band. This could serve as a possible wall "hanger" or at least better frame the stock. The 102nd Battalion, CEF, (initially the 102nd Battalion (Northern British Columbia), then after August, 1917, the 102nd Battalion (Central Ontario), CEF) was an infantry battalion of the Great War Canadian Expeditionary Force. The Cape Breton Highlanders Infantry Badge Description: A maple leaf Or charged with a thistle head proper bearing a bezant surcharged with mayflowers leaved proper and encircled by an annulus Gules edged and inscribed THE CAPE BRETON HIGHLANDERS in letters Or ensigned by the Royal Crown proper and resting on the Arms of Nova Scotia (1868) above a scroll Gules edged and inscribed with the Motto in letters Or; Symbolism The design includes elements taken from the badges of the predecessor units of The Cape Breton Highlanders. The mayflower is the provincial flower of Nova Scotia, where the regiment is located. The arms of the province are those in use at the time of the badges creation. The thistle is the emblematic flower of Scotland, while the maple leaf represents Canada. The Royal Crown indicates service to the Sovereign.
