Description: This original World War II United States Marine Corps officer's overcoat is made of heavy green wool gabardine with a green satin lining. It comes complete with all but one of its original black metal buttons. One of the six large double breasted front buttons is missing. The coat is tailor made. The inside lining has the initials, "W. J. P. O. S.". In addition, a tag in the inside left pocket reads, "TAILORED BY/Douglas McVey/for W. J. P. O’Sullivan/Date AUG 17, 1943" on four lines. I have not done any research on the individual. The jacket measures pit to pit - 22 inches (44 inches total), waist - 22 inches (44 inches total), shoulder to cuff - 26 inches, and neck to cuff - 34 inches. As I mentioned above, the coat is missing a button. It also looks like the original owner moved a row of buttons to make the coat smaller. While there are a few scattered moth nips on the sleeves, collar, and back, I would say it is in good condition as these do not impact the display of the coat. There is also a couple of spots in the lining where the stitching has come loose. It could stand to be dry cleaned. Please check out the large photos I have posted and judge condition for yourself.
