Like most lilacs, it has a pleasing fragrance, is deer resistant, and extremely hardy. It produces profuse blooms that attract bees and butterflies! Also known to be highly resistant to Japanese beetle. This species and hybrids of it were so frequently grown and selected by French nurserymen that France became synonymous with fine lilacs; today they are known as French Lilacs. At mature size, French lilacs can grow to be 12-16 ft tall. They want full sun; moist, but well drained soil, for best performance you want rich, compost amended soil; however, lilacs will accept loam, sand, or clay. pH should be alkaline to neutral.
